Teaching Philosophy

Philosophy Statement

I believe that all students deserve to be treated equally with respect and to be provided with an suitable learning environment with equal opportunity.  Being treated equally and providing a suitable learning environment means that I will teach my students differently depending on their individual needs.  I believe that successful  classroom management is based on procedures, routines, consistency, and fairness.  I will get to know my students and their families to help determine their strengths, weaknesses, and backgrounds to meet their individual needs.  I will exercise instructional techniques and activities that support the curriculum and incorporate all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.  I will provide my students with choices to help develop skills of independent learners.  I believe it is crucial to adapt the curriculum to suit the students’ cultural and religious backgrounds.

I believe in creating a learning environment that meets the students needs and makes them feel comfortable.  I conduct student-centered lessons and am willing to attempt several approaches.  I have seen first hand how impactful group work helps students to develop life long skills that are useful in the workforce and real world.  I utilize technology as a positive resource while still teaching— technology is a wonderful tool, but not a teacher.  I feel strongly of the importance of professional development and continued education.  I collaborate with my peer teachers to share new ideas and subject matter.  I uphold the standards and responsibilities of a teacher and incorporate strong values and beliefs amongst my students and peers.
